"Ode To Hirschfeld"
This comic was created for my Culture & Cartooning class with DC Comics editor Joey Cavalieri. We had to do a one page comic in the style of any artist. Guess who I chose?
The piece is done on 14"x17" Bleedproof Paper with pen and ink.

"Who Needs Sleep?"
Who Needs Sleep? was printed in Issue #1 of the 2006-2007 volume of SVA's cartooning magazine, Inkstains. I am one of five female editors. The idea was inspired by my walk home from my studio one morning.
The piece is done on 14"x17" Bleedproof Paper with brush and ink.

"Dad's Philosophy"
I created this one-page comic as a submission piece for Friend's of Lulu's upcoming anthology. It's an ode to my Dad and our car rides when he drove me every day to school for 12 years. It also will appear in Inkstains Issue #2 of the 2006-2007 school year.
The piece was done on 14x17" Bleedproof Paper with brush and ink.

"Hester & Galatea"
Cover-p.4
My most ambitious comic to date, Hester & Galatea is my 20 page "Man-Made Monster" themed Junior Thesis project. It was featured in the Cartooning & Illustration Spring Exhibition. I also designed the t-shirt for the show, which is included after the five pages available for preview.
This project was completed on 14x17 Bristol Board and with brush, ink, crayon, and colored pencil.

"NoSo Lake"
p.1-5
NoSo Lake is a comic I did for my Comic Strip Workshop class. It's a "slight" (and I mean slight) exaggeration of my first-ever camping trip. This comic was printed in Issue 2 of SVA's 2005-2006 Inkstains Magazine.
These five pages were done on 14"x17" Bristol Board and with brush and ink.
"Old Maid at 19"
p.1-4
Old Maid at 19 is totally different than anything else I have ever done before. Over 70 hours of work went into this comic. It is an inspirational comic intended to counter the pressure of "everyone getting married" at such a young age today. It is extremely personal, but I felt that this comic was something that I needed to do. I'm quite proud of it.
These four pages were done on 14"x17" Bristol Board and with brush and ink.
"3 Hour Comic"
p.1-3
My least favorite Storytelling assignment was to created a three-page comic from start to finish within 3 hours. Anyone who knows me knows that I'm quite a slow worker, so I really didn't like the whole rushing bit. I do like how the story came out in the end, though. (For the record, it took me 4 1/2 hours to complete this assignment).
These three pages were done on 14"x17" Bristol Board and with brush and ink.
"Fireball and Firegirl" p.1
Fireball and Firegirl were childhood superhero characters invented by my neighbor and our two sisters. When we were little, my neighbor and I used to pretend that we were Fireball and Firegirl, twin siblings with extraordinary super-powers. Our sisters were two of four younger siblings that made up a group call the "Fireyouths". (The other two members of the Fireyouths were made up).
All together, we were known as the unbeatable Fire Family, who battled the likes of such infamous villains as our archnemesis "Mr. Invisible".
"Fireball and Firegirl" p.2
My assignment for Storytelling class was to pick a genre we'd never done before and to do a two-page comic in that style. I chose the Superhero comic, and resurrected my old comic superheroes from my childhood past.
These two pages were done on 14"x17" Bristol Board and with brush and ink.
"Bully Bully" p.1
Bully Bully is a non-fictional research piece for Storytelling class. My topic was bullying.
These two pages were done on 14"x17" Bristol Board and with brush and ink.
"Bully Bully" p.2
This is the second page of my non-fiction piece. |
"The Accident" p.1
The Accident is the first non-comic strip page that I've ever done. My assignment for Storytelling class was to tell a two page autobiographic anecdote. I wrote about how I got my scar on my left hand. |
"The Accident" p.2
Page 2 of my two-page autobiographic story for Storytelling. Both pieces were done on 14"x17" and with brush and ink. |
"Roosevelt & Co."
Roosevelt and Company is my original comic strip. It's based on my family's dog, as well as various aspects of my life.
This is a sample page of a few of my favorite strips, taken from my first mini-comic.
"Procrastination"
This was an assignment for my History of Cartooning class. It's a based on the old "Funny Films" that used to be in the newspapers. It was originally 11"x17" and done in brush and ink.

"Life at SVA"
My assignment for Graphic Imaging was to depict life at SVA. There is an obvious MAD magazine influence here. Sadly, everything is quite true.
This comic was done on 11"x14" Bristol paper in nib and ink.
"My dilemma"
This assignment was to "draw someone you're close to" for my Graphic Imaging class. Because of me, he even mentioned that pets could be included (since I kinda like to include my dog in a lot of my work. Kinda.)
This was done in Staedtler pen and Prismacolor markers.
